US Expels 4 Gambian Diplomats
The US Department of State expels 4 Gambian Diplomats for Engaging in actions that were unsuitable with their Diplomatic Positions.
The diplomats Abdu Cham (Counselor), Pa sako Darboe (First Secretary), Mustapha Sosseh (Deputy Head of Mission), and Alhagie Babou Joof (Finance Attaché) of the Gambian Embassy in the United States.
Abdu Cham is found wanting by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) for striking his daughter with a mop.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) reported that based on the victim’s injuries and evidence at the scene, the mop left markings on the daughter’s arms, and had it not been for Mr. Cham’s Diplomatic immunity he would have been arrested under state law and charged with second-degree child abuse.
Pa Sako Darboe is found wanting for taking custody transfer documents of a thirteen-year-old girl and a fourteen-year-old boy.
Further investigations by the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) determined that the custody transfer documents were deceptive, and that Mr. Darboe used these deceptive documents to enroll the two children in School in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) found that Mr. Alhagie Babou Joof, a Finance Attaché had participated in Visa Fraud.
The Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) also found that Mustapha Sosseh, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy, had been associated with Visa application fraudulent indicators and that the illicit schemes described above took place under his leadership.
The US State Department officials have given the 4 expelled Gambian Diplomats until July 17th 2023 to leave the United States.
