TVET Center for Fisheries identified in Gunjur Community

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology has recently identified a suitable site to house the nation’s first-ever TVET center on fisheries located at Gunjur, in the southern part of the Gambia.
This came through as Professor Pierre Gomez, the Minister of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology (MoHERST) and his team embarked on a tour visit to identify the site.
This development came after the official inauguration of the committee tasked with the development of a full proposal on a Fisheries TVET center on the 19th April, 2023.

In his remarks, Professor Pierre Gomez said that “we are pleased to inform that a site has been identified and thus, we look forward to working with our partners for the construction phase to begin.”
He revealed that “once operational, the TVET center on Fisheries will offer programs in fisheries management, fishing and fishing gear technology, post-harvest technology and aquaculture.”
Professor Gomez added that this will provide opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship in the fisheries sector likewise develop relevant capacity for the management and development of the fisheries sector in the Gambia.
