Trust Bank Donates Items Worth D450, 000 To Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric And BMCH

Trust Bank on Monday began its annual donation gestures to various hospitals in the Gambia which began with a presentation of valuable items worth D250, 000 to the Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric hospital. Items donated to Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric hospital include secondhand clothing, electrical materials, refrigerator and detergent among others.

The gesture continued to the Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital (BMCH) which currently has almost 4958 deliveries, where Trust Bank also presented other items such as plastic chairs, buckets, water dispenser, detergent and air fresheners among others worth D200, 000. The donation was part Trust Bank Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Speaking earlier at the Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric hospital, Njilan Senghore, managing director for Trust Bank said that last October, the bank celebrated its 26th anniversary of continues growth and success since commencing operation in October 1997.

She noted they believe that while growing, it is their duty to give back to the communities which she said forms the cornerstone of their success.

“Our aim is to give back in a structured and sustainable manner that ensures the greatest positive impact to the beneficiaries. To achieve this, we carry out a need gap analysis with target hospitals to be able to accurately measure areas where our support is most needed. This enables us to deliver support that are relevant and impactful to the hospitals.”

Speaking further at the BMCH, MD Senghore said the donation came at a crucial time when the demand for quality parental and postnatal care is on the rise. She added “maternity ward is the heart of any hospital, offering a safe and secure environment for mothers to bring new life into the world.”

“It is our responsibility as corporate citizens to ensure that this important facility has the necessary resources to provide exceptional care and support for mothers and their newborns,” she continued.

She advanced that the presentation is with their strategic objectives of complementing government’s efforts to ensure that no mother should die while giving birth and that no child should die at birth from preventable causes and that quality health services will be accessible to their various communities.

For his part, Bakary Ceesay, a Matron at the Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric hospital narrated that the Psychiatric hospital has existed for many years which started with former Psychiatric hospital called Kampama in Banjul.

He revealed that from the year 2006-2009, kampama moved to Tanka-Tanka which was then been fully funded by a philanthropist through the help of the Gambia government.

He stated that Tanka-Tanka consists of 150 bed capacity, adding that sometimes it would go closer to the bed capacity of the individuals. Ceesay informed that they current have 76 bed sheets at Tanka-Tanka. He thanked Trust Bank for the gesture and assured them for the best use of the items.

Dr. Mamadi Cham, the Chief Executive Officer at the Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital said that his relationship with Trust Bank dated since 2012 at Farafenni Hospital.

 He thanked the management and leadership of Trust Bank for the concern for the health of the people of the Gambia and the long term and fruitful relationship.  

“Trust Bank is the only Bank which I can say has been annually donating to public facilities across the country. That is something worth to be recognized,” he said. He said the donation is highly need at the BMCH maternity unit.
