TRRC Lead investigator, lead counsel set to leave

The Director of Research and Investigation of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission, TRRC Alagie Saidy Barrow, has resigned from his post after opting not to renew his contract which expires later this month.

Alagie Saidy Barrow is a Gambian-American who was based in the USA working as an Army National Guard officer. He was one of the plotters in the 2014 Gambian coup d’état attempt, and for his role in which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment under the Neutrality Act of 1794.

 Barrow was appointed as the director of research for the Gambian Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) in August 2018.

According to confirmed sources, TRRC staff have options to renew or leave after each expiry of their contract and it is normal that some choose to stay while others leave.

Barrow wrote on his Facebook page: “My resignation from the TRRC will be effective on the 15th of this month. Please note that I am resigning for personal and professional reasons. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with a wonderful team at the Research and Investigations Unit and I am thankful to my supervisors Dr. Baba Jallow and his deputy, Musu Bakoto Sawo. I am also grateful to the entire TRRC staff for their support and guidance. Importantly, I am humbled and grateful to the Victims and witnesses who trusted us enough to share their stories with the team. I will continue to support the work of the TRRC and the Victims in any way that I can. I thank you all for your well wishes and prayers”.

Meanwhile, the deputy lead counsel of the TRRC who doubles as Alagie Saidy Barrow’s wife, Horojah Balla Gaye has also set the records leaving the TRRC. Information has it that  Horaja Balla Gaye is going to take up employment at the International Criminal court in the Hague after her maternal season.
