Tekki-Fii,inaugurates D5M Youth Centerproject in Bansang Community

The Tekki-Fiiprogram in partnership withGIZ, ENABLE, YEP and IMVF recently inaugurateda D5 million Dalasi project of theBansang Youth Center, as part of its objectives to support the socio-economic of youths in Bansang inareasof skilldevelopment and to transform lives of the people in the community, to complement their efforts in the Gambia by contributing to socio-economic development and nurturing positive opportunities for local populations and returning migrants in the Gambia.

Amongst its aims isboosting the economic development with a focus on attractive employment and revenue generation in regions prone to migration; and facilitate a conducive socio-economic environment for effective and sustainable reintegration of former migrants and to improve the attractiveness of rural areas.

TheTekki-Fii platform and its partners are currently on a tour to the Rural Gambia where they are undertaking various developments to various beneficiary communities.

Speaking during the inauguration, AlhagieSaine, theAlkalo of Bansang urged the youth of his community to mantle the leadership and ownership of the place to accommodate and guard and protect the Center form been pollutedand in terms of drug abuse that will tarnish the image of the community and theYouth Center.

He added that they as theBansang Council should be role models for the youth, and that they need to protect the youth center considering the cost involved in the construction of the Center, adding that the spent could save someone else’s life.

For his part,MrKaramoTambajang, the Manager of Bansang Youth Center acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports through National Youth Council andits regional structure and the board of Bansang Youth Center for their commitment towards the realization of the rehabilitation process.

He recognized the IMVF Tekki-Fii and its companion ADWAC and United Purpose for their devotion towards the MOU between Bansang Youth Center and IMVF.

In his remarks, Musa Mbye who spoke on behalf of Honorable Samba Bah, the Governor of Central River Region pointed out that the project as significant to the community and that it serves as a multi-purpose Center in the sense that different activities will take place in this center.

Amie Lowe, IMVF focal person for CRR, in her vote of thanks said the project has greatly reduced the irregular migration rate within and among the youths in the CRR, knowing how irregular migration causes a great setback in their development particularly within their communities, adding that most of the able and energetic men upon joining the Back-way, journey has led many as unable, particularly in the farming communities.
