Task  Force Continues Nationwide Road Clearing Exercise

The Task Force including Gambia Police Force, Physical Planning and National Roads Authority continues the  nationwide clearing initiative,  tasked by the government of the Gambia to discard  illegal structures, livestock, derelict motor vehicles, Kiosks and vendors selling on the highway. This initiative started at sting corner heading towards various parts of the Country in order to ease  traffic congestion, accidents  amongst others.

Bakary Manneh, the road safety Engineer from the National Road Authority, highlights that iin Brikama a lot of structures were built on the highways completely blocking the concrete road that was built by the counsel along with roads heading towards the Brikama hospital as this road clearing exercise is to enforce road safety and as much they are deriving revenue from people they should not put their lives in danger.

He further highlighted that the road operation is here to stay as it is in accordance with the law and that this is just the first phase  as there is follow up teams  that are in charge of going back to places covered already to make sure it is completely covered.

He also discouraged the collecting of money by shop owners from women selling in front of their shops as it is not right because in front of shops are not owned by shop owners as it is part of the road corridors.
