Presidents of Senegal and The Gambia Strengthen Bilateral Relations in Historic Meeting

In a significant diplomatic move, His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, embarked on his first official visit to The Gambia on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Accompanied by senior officials from his government, President Faye was warmly received at Banjul International Airport by His Excellency Mr. Adama Barrow, President of The Gambia, along with key members of the Gambian government.

The visit underscores the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the two nations and reflects on the shared commitment of Presidents Faye and Barrow to foster camaraderie and collaboration for the mutual benefit of their governments and people.

During a consultative meeting, the two Heads of State reviewed the status of the historic bilateral relations between The Gambia and Senegal. They reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining the established Presidential Council, which aims to elevate cooperation between the two countries to a strategic level.

President Barrow extended his congratulations to President Faye on his resounding election victory and inauguration as the 5th Head of State of Senegal. He expressed his well wishes for the successful implementation of President Faye’s progressive programs.

President Barrow also expressed his gratitude to President Faye for choosing The Gambia as his second overseas visit since assuming office. He described the visit as a tangible demonstration of the enduring fraternal ties between The Gambia and Senegal.
