President Barrow Receives OIC Assistant Secretary-General
The OIC Assistant Secretary- General H.E. Ambassador Youssef Al-Dobeay meets with President Adama Barrow at the statehouse to discuss preparations of the upcoming 15th OIC Summit.
The 15th OIC Summit is to take place during the 2nd half of December 2023 in The Gambia.
H.E. Ambassador Youssef Al-Dobeay, OIC Assistant Secretary- General says they will be visiting all the sites that will be hosting the Summit and also do all the necessary discussions with eleven (11) Authorities from the Gambia’s OIC preparatory Committee.
H.E. Ambassador Youssef Al-Dobeay states, OIC is the main partner and supporter of the Gambian Government in ensuring the success of this very important Summit.
He further says he has been coming to The Gambia for the past four (4) years and has overseen the preparations of the Summit.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the second largest inter-governmental Organization with a Membership of fifty-seven (57) States spread over four (4) Continents.
The OIC organizes the Islamic Summit, which is the largest meeting, attended by the Rulers and Heads of State and Government of its Member States. The Islamic Summit takes policy decisions and provides guidance on all issues pertaining to the realization of its objectives as provided for by the OIC charter and consider other issues of concern to the Member States and the Ummah. This meeting is held once every three (3) years.
The 15th Heads of State and Government Summit will be held in The Gambia in 2023. The Government of The Gambia sets up The Gambia OIC Secretariat to lead Government’s effort to host the Summit.
Five priority projects have been identified by the Secretariat; they are the Sir Dawda kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre which was inaugurated in January 2020 by the President H.E Adama Barrow, road infrastructure, VVIP airport and terminal renovation, 5-star Hotel, VIP cars and delegate transportation. Other projects include Security, Health, Water and Electricity.
