President Barrow Decorates Three GAF Generals 

Earlier today, President Adama Barrow honored three Gambia Armed Forces generals at the state house and GAF high command interface.The decorated generals were Brigadier General Sait Niie, Major General Ousman Gomez, and Lieutenant General  Mamat O.A Cham.

It was made even more special as their spouses witnessed the decoration ceremony. The event was attended by Cabinet ministers, senior GAF officials, friends and spouses.

After being decorated, they all took six paths: the oath of office, oath of allegiance, oath of trust, oath of allegiance to the commander in chief, oath of allegiance to the nation, and oath of secrecy.

The Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant Mamat O.A Cham, describes the occasion as a unique opportunity for the Gambia armed forces high command to meet the president and commander in chief. He added that the  gathering aligns with military norms and showcases the cordial and professional relationship between the armed forces and their commander in chief.

CDS Cham further thanked the president for appointing him the 9th chief of defense staff of the Gambia Armed Forces on 29th September, 2023 on the same day he appointed major general Ousman Gomez as the deputy chief of defense staff and brigadier general Sait Njie as the commander of the national army.

He also mentioned that his staff officers have consistently backed the government’s agenda to reform and transform the armed forces since he took office.

The Minister of Defense, Sering Modou Njie, praised the decorated general officers and acknowledged the significant transformation of the Gambia armed forces under President Barrow. He highlighted the various capacity-building initiatives that have been implemented since the security sector reform program in 2017.

President and Commander in Chief Adama Barrow also congratulates the decorated generals officers and advises them to regularly engage in dialogue at different levels, whether strategic, operational, or tactical. 

President Barrow reflects on the achievements of the army since 2017 and emphasizes the government’s fruitful efforts to support the armed forces in areas such as capacity building, logistics, and welfare.

Sharing the similar sentiments they thanked their partners such as the United Nations, Ghana, Turkey, China, Nigerian, and the United States among others for their support.
