President Adama Barrow Launches National Youth Service Graduate Program
His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Friday 8th September 2023 launched the National Youth Service Graduate Program at the OIC conference center in Bijilo.
President Barrow highlighted that 3 months after his state of National Address where he declared the propose Mandatory National Youth Program targeting University Graduates he is implementing it by launching the pilot phase of that important Program.
He further expressed that this initiative is designed to empower all youth and avail them with opportunities to serve the Nation.
Bakary Badjie the Minister of Youth and Sport said Gambians have a culture of struggling with time and discipline but further hopes that the National Youth Service Graduate Program would be a platform to help transform those that passed through it to change the culture of being late and not having an attitude that is expected of every civil and public servant .
He further thanked the UNDP for their support to the Ministry, NYSS and the University of the Gambia.
Abass Bah Executive Director of NYSS expressed that the Program’s objective is to ensure that young people from the University are oriented and prepared for National duties in the Public Service.
He further stated that over 245 young people learning skills like Tailoring, Carpentry Welding, AutoMechanic among others in the NYSS are provided stipends every month by the Government alongside Tuitions in various Colleges and Training Institutions across the Country.
The national youth service scheme graduate program is being implemented by the national youth service scheme in collaboration with the university of the Gambia with financial support by the government through the ministry of Youth and Sport and the UNDP.
They are to be deployed to various institutions for one year internship programme.
