‘Poor Planning Blamed for Lowest Attendance in OIC History’ – Mamma Kandeh

During a rally in Dobo, CRR, Mamma Kandeh, the leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress, highlighted the significant absenteeism of OIC leaders, attributing it to inadequate preparations. Kandeh pointed out that the lack of readiness in Banjul was likely communicated to the leaders by their advance teams, impacting their decision to attend.

Kandeh urged President Barrow to critically evaluate the summit’s outcome and question its success. He emphasized the need for Barrow to assess the performance of his ministers, particularly in foreign affairs, and the effectiveness of numerous, seemingly redundant ambassadors stationed globally.

The GDC leader questioned the rationale behind the purchase of 89 costly vehicles, each exceeding D3 million, for a brief two-day event. He also raised concerns about a pre financing deal with a businessman for the vehicle acquisition, demanding transparency from the government regarding the fate of vehicles procured for the previous OIC summit under Yahya Jammeh’s regime.

Additionally, Kandeh expressed the GDC’s commitment to an open-door policy, aiming to engage with all parties and members constructively. He stressed the importance of unity in governing the nation, highlighting the necessity of avoiding unnecessary conflicts.

Encouraging Gambians to scrutinise the progress made by the Barrow administration since 2016, Mamma Kandeh urged citizens to assess whether meaningful advancements have been achieved during this period.
