Parliament Ratifies $16M For UTG Phase II Construction Project
The National Assembly, on Tuesday ratified a loan agreement of $16millionfor the Gambia University Project Phase II. The loan was meant for the construction of the University of The Gambia Faraba Banta Campus.
The amount stated is set to cover the construction of the UTG Chancery, the faculty of law, the school of agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
The ratification came following the agreement made between the Republic of the Gambia (hereinafter called “the Borrower”) and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (hereinafter called “BADEA”.)
According to a document issued to the VOD by the Minister of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez, it stated that the project aims to secure 1600 additional study seats to meet the increasing demand for university education and to contribute to fulfilling the country’s future needs of specialized scientific cadres in various fields.
The project objectives also aim to meet the needs of the country and the labor market, support economic and social development and contribute to alleviating poverty in the country.
