OIC Summit in The Gambia: Finally Set for May 4th-5th, 2024 after Multiple Postponements

After being delayed twice, The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit is now confirmed to take place in The Gambia from May 4th to May 5th, 2024. Initially scheduled for Banjul in 2022, the summit was held in Pakistan and then moved to Mauritania in 2023. However, following a meeting of the OIC Gambia Secretariat on February 22nd, 2024, it was announced that plans are in an advanced stage to host the summit in The Gambia.

The OIC Summit is of national importance and aims to enhance unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development. Leaders from the OIC’s 57 member countries and beyond, including Presidents, Kings, Sultans, Prime Ministers, and Rulers, are expected to attend. The theme of the summit, “Enhancing Unity and Solidarity Through Dialogue for Sustainable Development,” is especially timely given the growing call for a united voice to address the injustices and violence faced by Muslims worldwide.

The summit will feature various meetings, starting with a Senior Officials Meeting from April 30th to May 1st, followed by a Council of Foreign Ministers from May 2nd to May 3rd. The main plenary meeting of the OIC Leaders will then take place, bringing together influential figures from around the world.
