New RE-NDP to Cost US$3.5 Billion

President Adama Barrow on Friday at State House launched the 2023 to 2027 new Recovery Focused National Development Plan (RE-NDP) which is expected to cost $3.5 billion.

Speaking at the launch of the new Recovery Focused NDP known as “Yiriwaa” President Barrow noted that the “plan is accompanied by a financing strategy that presents an optimistic funding scenario of US$3.5 billion and a conservative scenario of US$2.8 billion”.

At a rate of D67.68 GMD to one US$ 1 Dollar, the total amount required for the Yiriwaa NDP is GMD236.88 Billion and for the conservative scenario GMD189.504 Billion.

President Barrow further said that this plan succeeds the last development plan of 2018-2021 as its his second national plan during his presidency.

“Yiriwaa marks as a transformative journey to sustainable and resilient development, and when this project is implemented it will not only fulfill the medium term development aspiration but also will contribute significantly towards the achievement of the sustainable government goals SDG’s agenda 2023 whilst implementing previous plans my government employed numerous measures to stabilize the economy, restore public confidence and strengthen democratic institutions. Despite my government recognized the urgency to do more especially in terms of resilience building thus the formulation of the recovery focused national development plan to foster sustainable and resilient development.” He said 

Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Seedy Keita emphasized that the plan signifies government’s commitment to  implementing programs and projects that will contribute to transforming the country to a more progressive and inclusive society.

 He also stressed that the formation of the “Yiriwaa” comes at a time when countries around are still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 and the effect of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war as a medium term development plan will help address this and other development challenges that has been encountered with a view to achieving the development aspiration of the citizens.

He added that the plan is to address the prevailing economic development challenges as a successful implementation will ensure achievement of the country’s medium term development objectives by extension will contribute to the realization of the global and regional commitment at United Nations development goals and the AU agenda 2023.

The Recovery Focused National Development Plan RFNDP aims to consolidate gains in democratic governance accelerate green economic , social transformation, build resilience to shocks and crises among others.

The event attracted audiences from all stakeholders involved in development, including cabinet ministers.
