“My Mandate Is Finish Constitutionally But I Will Not Resign” Sheik Momodou Lamin Touray Of The Supreme Islamic Council

Momodou Lamin Touray, president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), has confirmed that his mandate as President of the council has elapsed but he will not resign. Imam Touray made this declaration during an exclusive interview with GTTV’S “Menyanta Show” with Pa Ousman Joof and Alhagie Ebrima Bah Mamakoto on Saturday evening.
According to the SIC number one, this is not the first time this is happening as their predecessors also overstayed in office. “Someone else’s mandate was finish before and he still continued to occupy the office”,say Imam.

Asked if he will resign since his mandate is finished, the SIC leader said he hasn’t seen any reason  that should  warrant his resignation.””I will not resign because there is no reason that calls for my resignation. The elders entrusted me with a responsibility and I will do whatever it takes to keep up with it, I will do. No matter the amount of difficulty, no matter the amount of shame,  no matter the amount of accusation I will bear the burden.”,  Echoes the Imam.
Responding to a quiz of when his mandate ended, Imam Touray said that’s confidential and he will not disclose it. Nonetheless, the Sheikh reveals that the motive of their position is influenced by the quest for safeguarding a top-secret, he added that they have  tried everything  possible to abandon the office but to no avail. ” It’s because of confidentiality that we want to leave and we are not able to leave until today. We have done everything you can think of secretly, openly,  out in the streets or inside, discussions and everything you can think of we have tried but Allah does not ordain it yet. Whenever he ordains it”.
The Sheikh confirmed that contrary to reports that the Supreme Islamic Council sat down with Rawdatul Majalis and trashed our differences,  Mr. Touray said “we never sat down with them and the Supreme Islamic Council is intact the same way Alhagie Soriba Jabbie left it.
When asked about the widespread audio of him making the rounds on social media in which he is alleged to have given up the Council’s leadership to Rawdatul Majalis and urged all followers of the Supreme Islamic Council to leave everything in the hands of Allah for the sake of peace, the outspoken scholar said”I don’t have the powers to tell anyone to take over the Council, my executive don’t have the power. Only the general membership from across the country has that power. ”
