Miss Gambia competitions set for December 30

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the National Center for Arts and Culture(NCAC) in collaboration with the Association of Fashion Designers of the Gambia and Biddy’s promotion are set to stage the National Miss Competition on December 30 at the Kairaba Beach Hotelto showcase Gambian fashion, beauty, intelligence and style targeting age group from 17 to 27, meeting the international standard competitions.

The objective of the edition is geared toward showcasing the beauty of the Gambian women with morals and intelligence, promote culture and heritage, the Gambia’s image and forge national unity.

In a press conference held Thursday at the Miss Gambia secretariat located at the Ida’s Ideas Fashion design training institution in Bakau, the president of the Association of Fashion Designers of the Gambia, Ida Saine-Kontehapplauded the ministry and the NCSC for the honoring their partnership to staging the upcoming Miss Gambia edition.

She noted that due to their numerous previous successes they have achieved, the government and its ministry bestowed in them the trust to partner for the preparation of the December event.

However, she mentioned that they have already commenced with the underground work immediately after signing the Memorandum of understanding without been given any date or amount to begin with.

Madam Saine-Conteh revealed that at this stage, they have already finished with the preliminary rounds of Miss Banjul, Miss KMC and Brikama and currently vying for the rest of the regions from which they will emerge with the finalists for the national competitions in December.

“We want to see that we have very beautiful girls, smart and intelligent girls. It is not like we are going to pick any girl, you have to be beautiful, intelligent and smart, because you are representing the Gambia in the future,” she said.

She added that it high time the Gambia participated in every international competitions, while assuring the government and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture a successful event.

She noted that there are funds allocated for the winners for educational scholarships and entrepreneurships for their future benefits, while she appealed for governments and companies support for the success of the events and empowering the finalists for their future.

MomodouNjie, the Miss Gambia media consultant said that for over two decades, Miss Gambia has not been held and that it is coming back in December. He said the Gambia through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture have tasked theNCSC to cordially organize the Miss Gambia 2022 edition, in solid partnership with the Association of Fashion Designers of the Gambia and Biddy’s promotion.

The Director General for the National Center for Arts and Culture, Mr. HassoumCeesay said that the Miss Gambia parget was been held as far back in 1965 and for almost four decades, it was one of the most regular cultural artistic and beauty pargent in the country’s calendar with the idea to showcase the country’s cultural heritage, women empowerment, to promote the country’s image as tourism destination.

Ceesay noted that the preparation came prior to MoU signed last June amongst the three parties for staging the festival, that all the regions would be represented in the competition as it is a national event. He added that the event is aimed to be annually contested.However, he further assured the Association of the ministry’s and government support to ensure a successful event.
