Ministry Of Health Made Clarification in Obtaining Birth Certificates

The Ministry of Health, on Friday Made Some clarifications in regards to required documentations needed  for applicant’s  eligibility  for The Gambia Birth Certificate and National Health Insurance Card.

Ministry Officials said that the registration is open to both Gambians and Non-Gambians of all ages for free but there are requirements to be able to obtain both the birth certificate and the national health insurance card.

They outlined that for a person to be eligible for a birth certificate, the person should be born in The Gambia to one or both Gambian parents,or parents who are non Gambians,or a person born outside the Gambia to Gambian parents then the documents needed from the applicant would be one of the following documents, these are: a valid national ID card, infant welfare card, antenatal card for newborn, passport, alkalo’s attestation(endorsed by district chief executive of mayor) and then followed by any of the below supporting document needed from one or both parents: a birth certificate,national ID card, passport or death certificate and likewise all documents have to be physical or hard copies.

For the national  health insurance card, its said to be eligible for both Gambians and non Gambian’s  who are residents in the Gambia, who lives legally for atleast 6 months in the country, employee or officials of the government posted abroad and the documents needs would be a resident permit or documentation indicating one is a legal resident for atleast 6 months in such situations.
