Mayor Bensouda Launched KETP Tree Planting Project
Mayor Bensouda with Lt Col KulutehMannehof GAF on Saturday 13thAugust launched the tree planting component of KETP . This project is said toplant over 190,000 trees within the kanifing municipality and the event was launched at the Fajara Barracks were 1000 trees was planted.
The ward councilor for Bakau, Binta Janneh Jallow thanked the mayor and the KETP director for using her ward to start the exercise and said that trees and forest playsan important role in mitigating the impactof climate change and said she finds trees t be a symbol of dignity.
KETP director Mr Dieng expressed gratitude for the exerciseand believes it is a mile stone for themand the families in the campusand said that the plants would be well looked after
He further said that tree planting exercise will contributeto the national development plan as it will contribute significantly to the environment and said it is an action taken by them trying to generate a sustainable city where we would have a regional wave and the city will be green.
Lord mayor Talib Bensouda said that they will be planting 10,000 trees in each ward with the aim of greening the municipality and that their action will contribute to both national climate change mitigation efforts and their adaptation needs likewise It would also contribute to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of The Gambia by lessening emissions to the atmosphere.
He further said that by planting 190,000 trees, there will be significant carbon capture reducing pollution and creating a more livable environment and the planted trees will provide shade, fruits, fresher air, and increased climate resiliency and biodiversity within the municipality.

“we intend to impact the lives of our youths, women, children and the elderly by enhancing the quality of the environment through greening of our municipality.” He said.
