Malawi wins African Nations Quiz champ

Saikou Bojang, a grade 7 student from Yundum Barracks School who represented the country Malawi emerged the champion of the 2023 African Nations Quiz competitions. The competitions which lasted after going through various stages by competing students’ representatives of 32 countries who recently qualified to the finals.

Jesse Unegbu who represented Ghana and Maimuna Gassama who represented The Gambia came out second and third positions consecutively.

The finals held at the Brikama College hall also witnessed presentations of certificates and trophies to various participants which brought together parents and teachers in support and motivations to their children. The occasion was held alongside celebrating the African liberation day.

Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Saikou Bojang expressed his mixed feelings from the outcome, saying that he was excited for emerging the winner but also nervous saying that there were many of his competitors who are at higher grades than him.

He noted his colleagues could do it better than him, but he was just lucky to win the competitions, however, he mentioned that the competition was not necessarily to be just a winner, but a learning path.

“All of us are winners as we were all given the chance to partake in the competitions which was a great exposure to all of us,” while he thanked the project Executive Officer, MrTunde for giving him the chance to learn through the process.  While he thanked his parents, especially his mother whom he said built confidence in him and giving him the maximum support and encouragements.

For his part, TAKE-M Chief Executive Officer, Tunde M.N. Ogundimu noted that despite challenges and constraints encountered during the course, he said that he thanked Allah for making it possible and for reaching this point.

He noted that it was not easy to bring all those kids together and coaching them through the process, but it worth it as they were able to make it together.

He said the significance of the project was to promote education in the country in the areas of spelling, reading and writing. He said the project was not meant to only re-write the history of Africa but for the young students to strengthen the culture of reading and writing. He thanked Africell for the support.
