Land Ministry urges orderly, maximal tax payment for national development
The Ministry of Lands, Regional Governments, Religious and NGO Affairs has urged for the maximal payment of land taxes in order and on time, that tax payment will enable land revenue the capability of helping all other institutions to grow their potentials maximally.
Speaking with the VOD last week, Honorable Abba Sanyang, the Minister of Lands, Regional Governments, Religious and NGO Affairs noted that they want to ensure that the government maximizes revenue from its main natural resources which is land.
He noted that the maximal use of this land is what they are yawning for, adding that the taxes that are supposed to be collected on this land should be maximal.
He informed that if taxes are paid, this will enable the country to make an absolute turnaround, “so we will realize that our land revenue should be capable of helping all other institutions to grow their potentials maximally,” he stated.
He advised that if taxes are being paid, it will also able to support the education system, road constructions, health system and agricultural system among other systems to be fully fledge operational, that “if we have to take land uses and land management in its full and supportive end.”
“That means, if all the lands are completely registered and each of the properties are being paid in order and on time, we will say a different thing about the economy of the state. I am very confidence about this and this is what my vision is and I want to see I land the Gambia into that situation,” he said.
Responding to a similar development regarding the effects of uncontrolled bush fire, he said it was a concerning issue he mentioned during his tour where they have been talking to people on how to control their environment.
However, he quickly noted that although this is an issue that could be dealt with, at the ministry of environment, but he agreed that they are counterpart ministries.
“We have been talking to people to control the environment particularly bush firing and how to maintain our environmental growth. This will enable us to have more resilience towards the global warming we are all scared off,” he concluded.
