Kumba Sinyan’s Murder Trial: Lead investigator Recovers Lamarana’s Phone

Mamadou Touray, an officer at the serious crime unit in Banjul today at the high court during Kumba Sinyan Vs. State trial, testified as PW9 and told the court that on the 15th September 2022, he led a team consisting of Police Officers and Investigators to recover the phone of the Victim (Lamarana Jallow) at the residence of the accused Kumba Sinyan.

”I led the same team on the 15th September 2022 again to her residence for the victim’s phone after she confirmed she has it with her. Upon arrival at her residence, she led us to a room opposite her room; it is like a store but with a bed and mattress. She lifted the bed and pulled out a black Sony Phone. It was given to me and I gave to the Crime Scene Officer for preservation.” He said.

State Counsel M Sanyang asked PW9 if he could identify the said phone and he said yes, the Counsel then asked how would he be able to identify the phone and he said he would be able to because the phone was personally given to him by the accused (Kumba Sinyan) and that it was a black Sony Xperia. The phone was then given to him for identification and he confirmed that it was indeed the same phone.

The phone was then tendered into evidence as exhibit J.

Aside from the phone, clothes worn by the accused (Kumba Sinyan) on the said night of the incident were also recovered and tendered into evidence.

Kumba is charged with the murder of one Lamarana Jallow at Friendship Hotel in Bakau on the 14th of September 2022.

Kumba Sinyan is currently facing a single count of murder contrary to section 187 of Criminal Code Cap

10:01 Revised Laws of the Gambia 2009.

The case has been adjourned to 13th October 2023 for the cross-examination of PW9.
