Human Rights & Drug Awareness Materials Donated To Gambia Armed Forces

The organization called 3DGam and 3DGlobal on Wednesday donated 60 packages of human rights and drug awareness reading materials to the Gambia Armed Forces. The reading materials include 1400 drug awareness booklets and 1230 human rights booklets.

The donation was held at the Gambia Armed Forces Defense Headquarters conference room in Banjul.

The gesture was to make Human Right packages available to the Military so that they would be kept in the military training school library not only to teach the new recruits, but officers and men to familiarise themselves with the fundamental human right booklets in their role to protect lives and properties of the citizenries.

The occasion was also, of great importance to raise awareness among the men and officers to the dangers of drugs to lives of citizens they help to protect.

Speaking at the event, Alassan Bah, 3DGam and 3DGlobal Homeland General said that having the presentation was a fulfilled dream.

He noted with belief, that the kits will be helpful to the army in ensuring the promotion of rule of law and human rights.

He said that the nation is of a collective responsibility as citizens, adding that it was a significant step to partner with the military through awareness promotion.

Bah revealed that 3DGam and 3DGlobal deem it fit to fulfil its dream as the kits could be useful to the military barracks and the military training schools and other military personnel to help equip themselves in relation to human rights and the rule of law.

 Bah said the items came through 3DGam partner Madam Tracy, Los Angeles USA, who shipped them to the Gambia.

Receiving the items, Yankuba A. Drammeh, the Chief of Defense Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces said that he deemed the gesture very relevant in the context that it was a fulfilled pledge.

He noted that the gesture is culmination of what had been discussed last year, adding that the materials are timely.

“As an institution, I can assure you one thing. We are open to any suggestion or proposal that is designed exclusively to enhance the professionalism of the competence of the Armed Forces in different domains,” he said

CDS Drammeh advanced to explained that their primary function as an institution and enshrined in the constitution is to protect and defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty against aggression, be it internal or external.

CDS Drammeh thanked the donors and assured them that the materials would be used, especially at the Gambia Armed Forces training schools where they are needed the most. He revealed that the military undertakes a continuous learning, from one training course to another.
