Hon Madi Ceesay Challenges Governments Embargo on Radios and Televisions in The Gambia
National Assembly member for Serrekunda West, Hon. Madi Ceesay Challenges Governments Embargo on Radios and Televisions in the country saying that he completely disagree with the embargo and that these is not telling well on the country’s record worldwide.
These remarks were made today, during the planned inauguration of KMC’S community radio which later turned out to be a conference to update the public about its challenges for operation
He also stated that the embargo on expansion of televisions and radio stations in The Gambia is not good for the country and that it will only put The Gambia down the ladder of the press freedom ladders.
“if you are putting an embargo on expansion of mediums like television and radio for the past two years and you have a beautiful complex like people’s fm among many others that cannot have their air ways because of the government , I find that really very disappointing but since it’s an embargo people should be able to find ways around it” he said.
He further went on to say that the matter is really very alarming because he believes that the country’s press freedom cannot be tampered with by people who want to trample on people’s rights and that this is also against peoples right if there is continuous limitations done on the media.
