GRA Generates Over D5 Billion Revenue in Just Three Months

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the D5 billion revenue mark in 2024, according to Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe in a press conference held in Banjul, Darboe announced that the GRA collected an impressive amount of 5.2 billion dalasis in just three months, showcasing the authority’s commitment to effective revenue generation.

During the conference, Darboe provided updates on various aspects of the GRA’s operations. He highlighted the contract awarded to SICPA, a Swiss Security Company, and the ongoing implementation of digital transformation initiatives.

With a target of collecting 19.3 billion dalasis for the year 2024, the GRA has already accumulated over 5 billion dalasis, demonstrating their progress towards meeting their revenue goals. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to continuous improvements, including the adoption of new technologies that have streamlined revenue generation processes.

Darboe emphasized the GRA’s dedication to maximizing revenue for national development. He provided clarification on the subject of rental income tax and highlighted the significant progress made through internal reforms, such as the implementation of the ASYCUDA World system. This system has effectively reduced revenue leaks and increased compliance, ensuring that timely payments are made to avoid blockages.

To further enhance operational efficiency, the GRA is introducing a web-based platform called I-Tax. This platform will facilitate online payments and enable transparent monitoring of vehicle movements during transit, ensuring a smoother and more streamlined process.

Darboe also discussed additional measures undertaken by the GRA, including the installation of CCTV cameras to monitor border activities. To ensure accurate revenue collection at the port, the authority has established a sophisticated weighting brigade and a container detecting system. Regarding SICPA’s involvement, Darboe clarified that a comprehensive tender process was followed, with SICPA emerging as the winning company. SICPA’s role will involve introducing tax stamps and fuel marking systems, enabling the GRA to effectively monitor production levels and levy appropriate taxes.
