GPF Decorates 207 Promoted Senior Officers

The Gambia Police Force yesterday 10th July 2024, at the Police Headquarters in Banjul, decorated 207 promoted Senior Officers. In line with this a decoration ceremony was held, where 55 Police Officers were promoted from Assistant Superintendent to Deputy Superintendent, 59 were promoted from Deputy Superintendent to Superintendent,35 were promoted from Superintendent to Chief Superintendent, 27 were promoted from Chief Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner, 22 were promoted from Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner, while 1 was promoted from Deputy Commissioner to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG Operations).

The Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray speaking at the event, highlighted that the decoration ceremony is a momentous occasion for him as Inspector General of Police because it falls within almost his 100 days in Office. Adding that, the promoted Police Officer ranks come with additional pay as well as additional and more challenging responsibilities. As he encouraged them to redouble their efforts as they continue to serve and protect the people of the Gambia and other Presidents of the Country.

He further stated, they are servants of the people whose tax pays their salaries and equipment they use in the execution of their mandates; therefore, it should be their primary purpose to serve and protect them from criminals and criminal elements. Adding, in as much as they are able to cut crime and public disorder, the people are still counting on them to protect them from the menace of insecurity. Noting, if they continue to work together with the civilian population, he is confident that they will prevail against those who bet on causing fears and panic in the communities through intelligence led policing robust patrols, effective community policing and introduction of the highway patrol unit, which have significantly reduced crime and enhanced road safety.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG Administration), Ebrima Bah, congratulated all the Officers on their well-deserved promotions, adding they are some of the finest Officers of the Gambia Police Force, noting they should be proud of themselves as they range from sitting Police Investigators, Commanders, Administrators and Prosecutors with knowledge and expertise in policing and law enforcement.

AIG Bah further urged them to inspire their subordinates to aspire per excellence in the service of the good people of the Gambia. Adding this promotion and decoration is one of the most fair, credible and transparent promotion the Gambia Police Force ever had.

The Minister of Defense, Sering Modou Njie, delivering a statement on behalf of the Minister of Interior, thanked the President of the Gambia and the Commander in Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces Adama Barrow, for approving the promotion of the superior Police Officers as he highlighted, the day marked a significant moment as they gathered with great pride and honor to commemorate the well-deserved promotion of senior Officers.

Minister Njie mentioned that, the promotion symbolizes not only personal achievement but the embodiment of excellence, dedication and service to the nation of the Gambia, as he outlined that, the newly promoted Officer’s advancement is a reflection of their tireless efforts, leadership commitment in upholding the law and ensuring the safety of the community. Adding their promotion is a testament of their professionalism and the trust placed in them to lead with integrity and honor.

The newly promoted AIG Operations, Pateh Jallow, in his deliberation on behalf of his colleagues expressed his profound gratitude to the Ministry of Interior and stakeholders for supporting the Gambia Police Force and its high command, adding it accumulated the realization of this memorable day, as he also thanked the Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray for having the courage and confidence by entrusting them with these delicate responsibilities that are tied to the new ranks that each of them was recently elevated to.

He further stated that, they take the promotion as a challenge as he affirmed their full commitment to the challenge, by encouraging his decorated colleagues to rise to the equation as well as stand up to the challenge and prove their worth for the promotion. Noting, they should give their best to the country as they record their name in the history books of the Gambia Police Force. Adding, they should continue to be exemplary Officers as they must not relent to serve as inspirational Officers to those looking after them. Stating, they cannot afford to fail.
