GMC Leader Says Govt Cannot Fight Corruption

The Leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) and former Interior Minister Mai Ahmed Fatty on Tuesday during a press conference held at his residence in Kotu, said that there is a law under which Corruption and corrupt practices can be tackled in the Gambia but implementation still remains a problem as he blames the current civil service by saying there is a need for total revamping, otherwise the fight against corruption will not work.

“Our civil service is one of the best when you want to produce any document, but this is not the civil service I want to rely on, with due respect to the good ones that are there. This civil service needs total revamping, otherwise the fight against corruption will not work,” he highlighted.

“The Gambia has some of the best laws in the whole world and some of the best policies, but they don’t work, because we are not committed to implementing them”. He said

He said due to the pressure that government is under for doing little to fight corruption, the Barrow administration has started to show seriousness by recently passing the anti-corruption bill.
