Gambia Senior Secondary School Class Of 1998 Donates D1M Worth Of Furniture To Its Alma Mata

The Gambia Senior Secondary School alumni of 1998, yesterday ploughed back a benevolence gesture through provision of over 200 single tables, water dispenser and chairs with 40 visitors’ chairs worth D1M. The presentation was held at the school examination main hall which brought together government officials, school authorities, current and ex-students of the school among others.

However, last February, the same class of 1998 provided stationary ranging from A4 papers, white board markers, risograph ink and masters among others which were used to conduct trial and mock exams for the grade 12 likewise for 2nd and 3rd term exams for grade 10s and 11s.

In his welcome remarks, Momodu Baba Jallow, principal of the school thanked the donors for the laudable gesture and revealed that the school management came up with a vision for the school where they developed a long term plan for the institution and carved out strategies to attain the objectives which include to ensure to have enough furniture.

Jallow informed that since 2021, to date, a lot of developments have occurred such as the refurbishing and equipping of the computer lab with 62 brand new computers, two giant multipurpose photocopiers, and overhead projectors likewise air conditioners. He revealed that the computers are networked and are currently used by teacher and students for teaching and learning and for research.

He continued to say that furniture has been one of their priorities which warranted them to outsource funds and repaired 212b desks and tables that awaited repairs for two years, adding that this eased congestion in the classrooms and hence the accommodation of more students.

He said due to the increasing students population coupled with the rise in the number of candidates presented by the school for the WASSCE, every year, (800 or more), they saw the urgent need to scout for more furniture to ensure that the grade 10s and 11s are able to attend classes without interruption during the WASSCE and to ensure congestion in the classrooms.

He advanced tat to achieve this target, they engaged the class of 1998 for its intervention. “During the engagement we noticed the love ad ambition they have for their Alma Mata and also the high level of eagerness they have to make Gambia Senior Secondary School a center of excellence,” he revealed.

In his remarks, Sadibou Kamaso, the chairperson of 1998 Gambia Senior Secondary School alumni urged for the proper usage of the furniture to able to benefit of current and future students of the school. He said that the donation was fully funded by members of the class of 1998, stating that there was no donation or support from any other institution.

He revealed that the idea behind the formation of the association of the alumni of 1998 of the school came with the formation of a WhatSapp group by three of their members to reconnect which was eventually agreed and welcomed amongst them and led to the formation of the association.

He said after the formation of the association, they decided to come to the school to assess the need of the school and to see where they could contribute to the success of the school.
