GAF Personnel Enhanced In Core Competency Peacekeeping Operations Training

Thirty members from the Gambia Armed Forces were on Friday graduated from the conclusion of a two weeks training on core competency in peacekeeping operations on United Nations Missions.

 The training was conducted by instructors from the Aliou  Blondin Beye Peacekeeping School mobile training tam from Bamako, Mali, which was sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany.

The ceremony held at the joint Officers’ Mess in Kotu, witnessed the certification of both graduates and trainers in recognition of their commitments and achievements.

The training was aimed to provide trainees with essential knowledge and competence of the United Nations Peace Operations, to give an overview of the role and responsibilities of UN Security Council and the mandate implementation and creating awareness on UN Peace Operations while preparing them for future deployment.

Speaking at the occasion, Colonel Dembo Jarju, who represented the Chief of Defense Staff, he revealed that the course conducted by the Mobile instructors from the renowned Aliou Blondin Beye Peacekeeping in Bamako, signified the strong cooperation and partnership between the Gambia Armed Forces and their Malian counterparts.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Peacekeeping school for their unwavering commitment to excellence in training and their continued support in building the capacities of our military personnel,” he noted.

Colonel Jarju revealed” the Core Competency Course on United Nations has equipped our Gambia Armed Forces personnel with essential knowledge and skills required for successful participation in peacekeeping operations.”

He told soldiers that “you have been exposed to a diverse range of scenarios, enabling you to develop critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving abilities in complex operational environment.”

He informed that the training was not just a personal accomplishment but a testament to the professionalism and capabilities of the Gambia Armed Forces.

Seyba Mohamed Diarra, Course Director from the AliouBlondinBeye Peacekeeping School said that the training was conducted in order to support the GAF in the framework of their preparedness in view of future deployments in both UN and AU missions.

He advanced to renew the constant sustenance of the AliouBlondinBeye School towards to GAF with regards to capacity building and the efforts for an accurate readiness to deal with upcoming peacekeeping operations more efficiently.
