GAF Organizes Inter-Battalion Drill Competition
In a bid to promote unity amongst its men and women, the Gambia Armed Forces on Wednesday 21st December, 2022 organized a day long inter- battalion drill competition at Fajara barracks.
Addressing soldiers on the Competition, Chief of Defense Staff, Yakuba Drammeh, has advised Gambians to desist from inciting tribal and political sentiments.
“For us to succeed as a nation, we need to desist from inciting tribal sentiments as well as using politics to create division and tension in the country. This I believe, if continuously unchecked, has the potential to degenerate into a conflict situation,” CDS Drammeh said.

CDS Drammeh added that drills are yardsticks of measuring the level of discipline of soldiers, the need for peace and security in the country and further advises his men and women in uniform to be committed to the maintenance of peace across the country.
“No given country can succeed without peace and security, so I advise you to maintain peace in the country,” he said.
CDS Drammeh also noted that the aims of the armed forces as written in the constitution is to defend and preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of The Gambia, to also aid civil authorities during emergencies and national disasters that is to engage in productive activities such as agriculture, engineering, health and education for the development of The Gambia.
He further said that he have endeavored to preach the gospel of peace and security as well as good and cordial neighbourliness and that it is evident that through the conduct of outreach activities in addition to its various operations, GAF, under his leadership, was able to win the hearts and minds of many Gambians and non-Gambians alike and that the event is clearly a manifestor in the unprecedented and overwhelming downpour of moral support from each and every one which was translated into massive votes that were cast for him that equally led to him winning of the ‘African Peace and Security of the Year 2022’ award.”
He concluded that the Armed Forces, under his leadership, will continue to nurture this relationship it has created with the sister Security Services and the population for whom they have taken oaths to protect at all times.
