Fatako Community In Sought Of Potable Water Supply Aid

The Fatako community at the Jimara District, in Basse, Upper River Region with about 350 residents has been badly suffering from a hit of water shortage for almost two years.

The community has been struggling to access water supply.

Currently there only water source is from an open well and an old hand pump, which they said is not hygienic.

Reaching out to the VOD, Mr. Wussi Jankor, the Fatako village head (Alkalo) calls for help from NGOs, philanthropists, government and individuals for possible provision of potable water supply.

“We have been suffering from shortage of potable water supply for two years now. The two places we get water from are from an open well and an old hand pump which is pretty not hygienic as it can cause diseases that are detrimental to our health,” he noted.

“We really need intervention for the possible provision of a borehole that could serve my community, because we have badly felt the pinch, especially our women who mostly queue to fetch water for their families which is not potable, but we have no choice as this is our only source,” the Alkalo lamented.

Fatoumata Nyabaly, the community women’s leader noted that the women have been in pain all these while, noting that due to the struggles they make with a long distance work carrying heavy pans of water have been fetched from the open well has caused them a lot.

She said, the well dries out after few people fetched water from the well which sometimes led others to go to a nearby community in search for water for their domestic needs.

“The water we are drinking is not good for our health, particularly for our kids, just by seeing the color of the water, tells you that we are not in good shape as it could deteriorate our health conditions. We are really in need of support,” she concluded.
