Crab Island Incumbent Ward Councilor Promises For More Unification In His Neighborhood As He’s Vying For 2nd Term
Honorable Omar B.J. Touray, the United Democratic Party (UDP) incumbent Councilor for the Crab Island Ward, Banjul North who also doubles as the deputy mayor of the Banjul City Council has promised that if voted second term in the coming local government elections slated for Saturday 15th April 2023, he will bring more unity in his Ward with more developments for his community more than he already did in his first term.
Speaking to VOD, Ward Councilor Touray assured that through his contacts built with the experience gained, he will use these advantages to perform better than his previous term.
He urged the Crab Island Ward electorates to wisely vote for him, noting that voting for him will give him opportunity to continue with the work he has already started.
However, he thanked the people of Banjul for giving himthe opportunity to prove himself during his first term.
He commendedthat throughout his first term as a UDP candidate, he had received the support of even none UDP members, but who supported him due to his interaction with them, and his capabilities, and what he can deliver to them which was based on the trust and confidence they have in him.
Furthermore, it could be recalled that Touray has touched by improving the lives of many people including women empowerment and children education during his first term.
He stated that part of his objectives is tounite people as one family, putting in mind that sometimes politics tend to divide people. He said that the neighborhood is very small, that he and his opponents live in the same hood. “When we reconcile, we take it from there and develop our Ward,” he assured.
He noted as the incumbent, it means a chance was prior given to prove through, and that he did a lot of things for the women of Crab Island Ward and Banjul in general as the deputy mayor. He said the Crab Island women garden was part of empowering the women also support families and their children.
“As the Councilor and deputy mayor, I have achieved a lot as I brought my people together through sports, entertainment and agriculture. I have a third division team called “Crab Island Division team” which I formed in 2018 when I came in to office. I do a lot of youth empowerment and youth volunteerism. I am closed volunteer, I do a lot of activities with the community, not only in my Ward but Banjul, generally,” he stated.
He recalled that 15 years ago, he worked at the Gambia Ports Authority, adding that he took up responsibilities at an early age which his neighborhood can attest to. He noted he was a football coach by coaching Nawetan teams where hemoved his team to the second division, first division and to Banjul United. He stated that part of his legacy is to unite people and engage the young people to for them to understand that they are the present and future generation.
He said “I want to ensure that the Crab Island School is fully rehabilitated with the EU project fund and moved the school to the next level likewise bring women together to do their gardening.”
