Councilor ML. Ceesay Calls For The Restoration Of  Ebotown &New Jeshwang Wetland

Councilor for Ebotown and New Jeshwang, Abib ML. Ceesay along side with the youths of Ebotown calls for the restoration of their wetland on Sunday 2nd of October, 2022 at the Ebotown & New Jeshwang Wetland.

Mr Ceesay attested that looking at the environmental problem of the wetland, he found out that some people are illegally settled beside the wetland which he said was against government policy, which reads that “no one should build there 10m before the extension and after the extension” .

Ceesay therefore outlined that all the compounds around the wetland are illegally acquired and does not think that non of the people settled there can produce a legal document for any location of the area and which in returns he said is disturbing their marine.

He also appealed  to the relevant authorities and stakeholders like the NAM for Jeshwang constituency, local government for lands and Physical planning to come to their aid as if not the youths are willing to demolish the structures which he believes can turn into another incident and he is not praying for that, “if the stakeholders does not address the situation then the members of the community will do it themselves” he added.

The program co-ordinator of the ward development committee of EboTown& New Jeshwang, Alagie Diop also shared the same sentiments and said that they are taking no stones unturned to protect their wetland because most of the fishes that were there are now all gone.

He added that they are working with the office of the councilor, physical planning and the local government of lands and the KMC to make sure that they would send experts to come and erect the area and that any compound that is found to have settled illegally, will be demolished.

Tijan Jarju, the Alkalo for Ebotown & New Jeshwang thanked the youths of the community for the initiative and said that he was surprise to find a boat there and said the place used to be full of boats in the past but said not anymore because the wetland is dying, he concluded.
