This practice is now widely spread in the United Kingdom and concerns have been raised by relevant officials and some of the girls’ affected.

Girls as young as 8 yrs old have under gone such practices. Breast Ironing is performed by ironing girls’ chest in order to delay growth in their breasts, in the hope to distract possible male attractions.

Safeguarding experts like Angie Marriott said “This is a community sensitive hidden crime and numbers are far greater than we anticipate”

Experts are calling on the government to make this subject mandatory and as part of the sex education in schools and that PE teachers should be trained to spot the signs in young girls.

There is no specific offence for breast ironing, but the Home Office described it as a form of child abuse and said it should be prosecuted under general assault laws.
