Breaking News: Multiple NAMS Joins Sulayman Saho In Push To Appeal FGM  Criminalization Law 

Currently at the National Assembly, a motion has been tabled by Honourable Sulayman Saho, calling for the repeal of the law criminalizing female genital mutilation (FGM) joined by majority of members who also expressed their opposition to the law and advocated for its repeal. 

During the debate on the motion, Their main arguments focused on the law being discriminatory, anti-religious, and anti-cultural.They further express that it infringes upon individual rights and freedoms, particularly in the context of religious and cultural practices.

Furthermore, female members of parliament like Fatoumatta Jawara, Maimina Cessay and female NAM for Foni unanimously voiced their opposition to the law and called for its repeal by emphasizing on  the importance of allowing individuals the personal choice of whether to engage in the practice of FGM or not and not criminalise it.
