BCC should collaborate with Central Government- President Barrow
His Excellency, President Adama Barrow has asked the Banjul City Council to effectively collaborate with the central government to collectively pursuit the development of the city.
He informed that considering the fact that the central government pumped over 90% of the funds used for the construction of the new BCC head office complex, he noted that prior completion of the construction, government should be given the invitation with a deserved respect to inaugurate the office.
President Barrow was speaking Monday night as meet with the people tour reached climax during a meeting held in Banjul.
The tour under the theme “together we can accelerate socio-economic growth and maintain peace and stability” gave opportunities to communities in the various regions to disclose their concerns and challenges faced through directly meeting with the head of state for possible interventions.
However, as the 2022 tour ended in Banjul, from the beginning of the tour, various concerns were raised, such as the allocation of monthly salaries for Imams, provision of potable water, electricity supply, health facilities with medication, agricultural productivity, good roads, artificial fishing andthe need for skills training centers among others.
As far as development is concern, President Barrow noted that the capital needs to be well cleaned and developed with infrastructural initiatives with note that there is no way the BCC could fully develop in exclusion of the central government.
“I don’t want to see what happened at the KMC to repeat itself here at the BCC. After the completion of the construction, you need to invite the central government for discussion to set the date for the complex inauguration then we return the keys to you for further operations,” he advised the BCC.
“We are the central government and we deserve maximum respect. We need to collaborate and collectively work together,” Barrow revealed, adding that the Council has its limited powers and therefore needs the support of the central government for development.
