BCC Deputy Mayor extends Ramadan benevolence of D72, 000 bags of sugar to Crab Island Ward

The Deputy Mayor of the Banjul City Council who doubles as the Councilor for the Crab Island Ward, Banjul North, Omar B.J Touray on Saturday extended 30 bags of sugar as his Ramadan benevolence gifs to seven streets in Banjul North.

The motion valued at D72, 000 were to be distributed to both the Muslims and Christian community in Crab Island Ward that includes Hardington Street, London Corner, Box Bar, James Island, Thomo’s street, Weslesy and Police Barracks.

Speaking at the presentation held at James Street, BCC Deputy Mayor, Touray stated the fact he was from a party, which is the United Democratic Party, but he stands for everybody in his Ward irrespective of party affiliations. He noted that before he became a party member, there was a strong bond between him and his communities which he guides.

However, as they are vying for the local government elections in which he is contesting for his second term as the councilor for Crab Island Ward, he says it is now up to the electorates to assess his previous performance, interventions and achievement during the last term. While he urged electorates’ strong support to enable him continue with his developmental plans for his Ward.

For her part, United Democratic Party (UDP) Crab Island Ward, Yaicomping, AjiBintouDarboe who is one of the beneficiaries, welcomes the gesture, assuring that it would be distributed to all beneficiaries justly. She thanked the Deputy Mayor for the firm stands he has not only for his Ward as the councilor but for the entire city as the Deputy Mayor.

National Assembly Member for Banjul North, MomoduLamin Bah considered his Ward as blessed community, considering the fact that the main authorities of the City, both Mayor RoheyMalick Lowe and her deputy are from Crab Island Ward.

He stated that both the Ward and the City have great expectations from them to deliver to their electorates while he calls for forgiveness amongst each other, live and support one another as one family.

However, he said the benevolence is not the first time, adding that the deputy mayor strives to help mankind, adding that the distribution was not meant only for UDP militants but for the entire Ward irrespective of party affiliation or religion, as they all belong to the community.

He clarified that Touray is not a Councilor for UDP but for the whole of Crab Island Ward which he serves with no fear or favor.  He stated that at the level of the Council, Touray strives to represent the whole Ward in addressing the needs and concerns of the people, and not just for the UDP which he belongs. He noted that Touray has a direct representation of the people. Other speakers include Aji Marie Njie.
