66th CPA Conference Opens In Accra

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday officially opened the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference,  which is underway in Accra under the theme: “The Commonwealth Charter 10 years on: Values and Principles for Parliaments to Uphold”.

The Conference attended by over 600 delegates from the 56 National Assemblies and 111 sub-National assemblies of the Commonwealth countries include speakers, legislators, clerks of parliament, other parliamentary staff and observers arrived in Accra on Saturday and have been participating in workshops on matters of security, human rights, environment, economy, gender and other cross-cutting issues.

The Hon. Speaker is been accompanied by Hon. Amie Colley, Hon. Yunusa Bah and the Clerk of  the National Assembly, Momodou A. Sise. Hon. Colley whilst participating as a panelists at a workshop on trade and economic development at the ongoing 6th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Accra, has called on global economic powers to stop trade protectionism and persure fair and sustainable trade with developing nations with the objective to allievate poverty and promote  economic development.

 Hon. Colley explored the role of trade in promoting economic development, reducing poverty, and enhancing social and environmental well-being.  

She also examined the unique challenges that small jurisdictions face in accessing global markets, including issues related to market access, infrastructure and regulatory barriers. She challenged Parliamentarians to pass resolutions that promotes investment but as well protected the legitimate interests of the people particularly the small businesses.The conference is aimed at fostering dialogue and cooperation among member countries to address pressing global challenges within the context of Commonwealth values and would be climaxed with the 2023 Commonwealth Parliamentarian of the Year award on Friday
